Ankle injury to sideline Moultrie next week in Orlando

POSTED: Tuesday, July 3, 2012, 4:32 PM

The Sixers, who were hoping to get a look at rookie forward Arnett Moultrie on the floor against NBA talent, will have to wait a little longer than expected.

Moultrie, who the Sixers acquired in a trade from Miami at last week’s draft, will not play in the Orlando 2012 Pro Summer League next week due to a sprained left ankle. The injury occurred during a pre-draft workout in Sacramento on June 25.

While Moultrie won’t play with the team next week, he will make the trip to Orlando in order to continue to receive treatment on the ankle. He’s also going because the Sixers want to introduce him to the team’s defensive schemes.

The Sixers acquired the draft rights (27th overall pick) in exchange for the 45th pick in the draft (rights to Justin Hamilton) and a lottery protected future first-round pick.

The League will be hosted at the Amway Center from July 9-13. The Orlando Pro Summer League affords teams the opportunity to see draft picks, undrafted free agents and other NBA hopefuls compete in a full-court setting.

I am waiting to see arnett play in summer league but bad luck strikes with his injury. i know arnett will be a solid player for the sixers. the bad thing is Rod thorn ain't making moves to make this team a contender. thorn should sign O.J Mayo. and probably trade Iggy and Turner for Al Jefferson and CJ Miles.

Still stunned how many posters think 71-year-old lame duck Rod Thorn is in charge. DOUG COLLINS is running the show, which is the reason why Danny Ferry decided to take the Hawks gig, as he did NOT want to be DC's caddy. If you don't like what the Sixers are doing/not doing, look at Collins, NOT Thorn.

You guys is thinking too hard..Sixers will be fine..they will not pick about a 25 pt player but they probaly will pick up jamal crawford or somebody like that..we got a summer to sign somebody..Its also dumb to trade iggy..he plays good defense and he's a leader on the team...trading him for a person that scores is dumb cause then who will guard the other team best player..HE also on the olympic team representing the usa and sixers..if we should trade anybody it would be brand, hawes,or sam young for a 15 pt player...Guys remember defense wins chamionships..Boston isnt going to be good just becuase they got terry dont mean they got any better remember they are (aging)Nets will be good but once again we got andre igudala the person yall want to trade to guard joe johnson..thats why igudala is important. The rest of the players can hold there own...We all agree kniks suckk they will probaly let go jeremy lin due to cap space so that leaves bad knees baron davis lol...the rest of the eastern confrence teams thats good thats left is heats

If the Sixers make a play for Howard I don't think its that big of deal if he says he will only sign for one team, because after this summer the Nets won't have the cap space for him anyways. So if he is going to sign somewhere why not hear? Take the gamble, if he stays the Sixers will be contenders, if he leaves we will probably have to start over. Either way were out of the purgatory that the team seems continually stuck in.

I agree its not a smart move to trade iggy just for the sake of trading him. If he could bring back a young, dead eye three point shooter who can create his own shot (I can't think of any) or a young stud center, or maybe even a Pau Gasol (if the Sixers bring in some additinal pieces) than it would be worth it. Otherwise, iggy brings more to the team than we will get back.

You have to look at the deals of the players you'd be getting for Iggy ... or Thad ... or ET. I think Pau is only signed for two more seasons. So, he would be an expiring next year (after Brand comes off the books). If we do an Iggy for Gasol deal and the team does not improve, we would be able to trade Gasol (a skilled 7-footer who will have better numbers on a team that doesn't have a lane-residing C like Bynum and a ball-hog like Kobe). If MIL has interest in Thad, I'd give them Thad and ET in a sign-and-trade for Ersanity and a pick (protected 1st? 2nd-rounder?). That kid has the potential to be a super-star (if you call Kevin Love a superstar). One more thing - if Iggy goes, I'd like to see a defensive replacement for him on the perimeter (Battier? Raja Bell-type). I will really miss the D Iggy plays on the other team's best wing.

The Sixers appear ready to make a trade for a shooter using Iggy and perhaps Vucevic as the bait. Terrence Ross. the 1st pick of Toronto, could be the choice.

I have been posting that the Sixers should offer R. Anderson a contract but this crowd isn't into him. He is restricted though and I don't see how the Magic don't match knowing they are not going to sign Howard.

Billy King couldn't build a sandcastle. The Nets look a lot like the Knicks did getting melo, etc. There is one stone cold fact in life, building a team through free agency rarely works. it usually ends up bad and then worse when the team realizes they are stuck with all of those contracts. When you sign a free agent you are paying for past performance, it is rare that when a player is avaailable he plays to those past numbers. Howard is coming off of back surgery. NAyone who tells you that anything to do with the back is "minor", you should be very skeptical. Back issues are hard to fix even with surgery. We all have friends or relatives that have had back issues so you should knwo how tricky and dangerous they are. Deron Williams is not the player he was. He is still excellent but he is not going to get better. In a league of great PG's(maybe the deepset in NBA history) he is not in the top 5 any longer for sure.
