A break from College Football

I'm taking a break from watching the Missouri vs. Nevada game and the Cal vs. Maryland game to post. There must be a few folks out there not making dip for the big USC vs. Ohio State game ... or watching the clock tick closer to Monday Night's showdown in Dallas. A couple? Maybe one?

I was cruising the net and came across the 76ers opening day roster from last season. Here it is:

Active:

Booth, Calvin
Carney, Rodney
Dalembert, Samuel
Evans, Reggie
Green, Willie
Iguodala, Andre
Korver, Kyle
Miller, Andre
Ollie, Kevin
Smith, Jason
Young, Thaddeus
Williams, Louis

Inactive:

Amundson, Louis
Hill, Herbert
Randolph, Shavlik

Obviously, as we've already talked at length, this roster has been revamped. As the team heads into Training Camp, a big question has to be: What guys from last year's roster aren't going to make the cut? There's just not room for everyone. By opening day, Sixers have to have 12 active and up to three inactive. Here's the list of guys on the current roster, this I pulled from the Sixers' website.

F Elton Brand

C Samual Dalembert

F Reggie Evans

G Willie Green

F-C Herbert Hill (Free Agent) * Contract renounced

F-G Andre Iguodala

G Royal Ivey

F Donyell Marshall

G Andre Miller

G Kevin Ollie (FA) * Contract renounced

F Shavlik Randolph (FA) * Contract renounced

C Theo Ratliff

G Kareem Rush

F Jason Smith -- Torn ACL

F-C Marreese Speights

G Louis Williams

F Thaddeus Young

So what do we think out there? Who is the odd man, or men, out? Where do Willie Green and Kevin Ollie* fit in now that Williams and Iguodala are locked in with long-term contracts, and Ivey and Rush have been brought in as reinforcements in the backcourt?

(NOTE: I'm going to have to credit Trackboy1 for the above contract asterisks. I thought the 'FA' label marking those guys as free agents was enough, but I gather from the comments below that it wasn't. I will definitely be more specific in the future. An * asterisk players means they could wind up at Sixers' training camp, but they could -- and most likely will -- be picked up by another team, at which point they will be removed from the Sixers' roster. The NBA asks that the most recent team keeps the bio of a 'renounced contract' player up on its website until that player signs with another team or stays with that team.)

my post script: The undefeated Colorado Buffaloes (2-0) have a bye today in preparation for a Thursday game against West Virginia on ESPN. I guess we'll see on Thursday if the Buffs are for real.
