76ers waive Dionte Christmas, Bowman
This morning, the 76ers waived shooting guard Dionte Christmas and forward Brandon Bowman.
Bowman's dismissal was expected, but Christmas, the former Temple star, looked to -- possibly -- have a shot at making the team. Here was Christmas' line during the pre-season: 4 games played (of 7 possible). 7.5 minutes a game, 12.5 percent shooting from the field, 33.3 percent from three, 66.7 percent from the line, 1.8 points a game.
Just left Sixers practice at PCOM. Sixers GM Ed Stefanski spoke about the decision to cut Christmas. He said Christmas might be someone they look at down the line, but that right now they'd prefer to go with 13 and have a possible spot available for someone more able to immediately contribute.
The Sixers roster now stands at 13 players, all of whom have guaranteed contracts for this season.

Christmas shot 12.5% from the field and people are saying we should have kept him ?! Hopefully he didn't go to school for just basketball and wll get a nice job in the real world. ozey
i think they're gonna stay with 13 guys as long as possible to save a buck...attendance is low and we're still in a recession...they're not gonna cut somebody they owe money to...that ship has sailed Mr Mel
The people who follow the NBA, and aren't into college bball, simply didn't go to college and/or don't have a team to support. So they have to follow the generic city team...the Sixers. Um...have fun? chrissmith- I am tired of all the knocks on pro sports. The college game is just substandard. I love the argument that it is more pure do to the "no money in it". If you honestly believe that I have a small tropical island I would like to sell you. I hate the longer shot clock. I will give you going to a college game is better than going to a pro game but that is due to the fans not the actual play.
Who cares about the sixers? FloridaBrian
Can someone, anyone explain to me why Stefanski has a roster full of Guaranteed Contracts? That's the problem, a roster full of lumber. Stefanski and Jordan should be run out of town, and now. Wake me up when real ballers hit philly. There's better games at 33rd and Diamond. Dexter

I come on here and say "the NBA sucks" to encourage you all to find your own college basketball programs to support...try it...trust me, you'll be so happy you made the switch...with the longer shot clock in college bball, it's really a whole different game...the teams actually run "plays"...defense is crucial, and not merely an afterthought like in the NBA...there's the school comraderie and school spirit, and the players aren't paid $10 million a year, which lets you enjoy the game without feeling like a tool chrissmith- why comment on an article if you dont have any interest in the team? get a life, if you dont like the nba(still wayyyyy better than the nhl for all the hockey heads who hate on the nba), or the sixers fine, but to comment makes you look like a upset hater. dont like the sixers than beat it.
Go Phils and Flyers! WC-Jonesy

Hey were talking NBA so all you goof ball haters, there is No Babies Allowed! rayzoe
Everyones always hating on the sixers. They are going to surprise some people this year. Granted everyone stays healthy, they'll be fun to watch. Clearly aren't going to win the East or anything, but out of the first round could easily happen. scheraty
What can a player prove in 7.5 per gm in only 4 games?? Not much. Way to give him a chance. And for the record, everybody knows Willie Green is Not an NBA player. Period XmarksTheSpot- Green's contract is the gift that keeps on giving. Awesome, he eats up cap space, doesn't produce when he eats up minutes and his guaranteed money basically kicked Christmas out the door. UGH!!!! None of the parts of this team fit any other part.
that's jacked up--is that English? thewiseone
Just don't get all the "HATE" on W. Green, it's almost like you blame him for their failures as a team. Agreed he should not be a starter, not his fault they start him. Off the bench for 15-18min per game and he is a solid NBA player. He would not have lasted this long if he could not play. The Sixers have dumped bigger contracts then his in the past. Check the pre-season stats and see who is the assists leader, W. Green playing about 15min a game. Give the guy a break, he is one of the few class acts in the NBA. Maybe this isn't the "basketball town" it's cracked up to be, not with the lack of knowledge I read in the comments posted here... lalleva
If you don't care mantle then why read the article and comment moron. gwite

Don't you love it when someone comments on a story like this and says they don't care about the sport? If that's true, then why are you here making comments?! derrickh
If Christmas is so great why did he not get drafted or get invited to any other camp? youpeoplehaveissues
Comment removed.- chrissmith, I agree! I love college basketball. LBA suck! Lebron Basketball Association!
Nova basketball is much better than the Sixers. College ball overall is much better to watch than the pro game. Other than LeBron, Kobe and a few others, the pro game is worse than watching high school ball. klschs- chriszak not a bad point but if I had to guess it is a money move Carney would get paid no matter what. Christmas will not get paid anymore.

To all those people who say they don't care, or that they make you zzzzzzzz, why did you click on the link to read this update? If you don't care, shouldn't you be reading something else? sixers_610
it's not why are we keeping lou and willie - why are we keeping rodney carney? christmas is a better shooter, maybe not as agile - but we already have guys who can run... chriszak- I just want to know if they are going to play with 13? As for green and dalembert, yeah I would like to see the money come off the books, but I have no real beef with dalembert. He d's other big guys fairly well and if the other 4 guys can score 76ers can absorb his lack of O. I like the fact that he can run the floor unlike most other big men. I just want to see consistency from dalembert's play. Green would not be bad coming off the bench 10-15 min a game.

Who cares? You guys are in a minority that keeps getting smaller. No one really cares about the NBA anymore. College basketball is 100 times better...where there's a longer shot clock, which makes it almost an entirely different game. chrissmith

Stupid move. But stupid moves seem to be all this team can do. cuso20
I will never understand how they kept Willie Green over him.. Terrible. gallen024
i agree, dalembert(and ernie) has to go. he is a bakup's backup at best. how bout we try to bring in amare st.!!! all four home teams will be contenders this year. hugrad02
Christmas not making the team is a shame, I would have liked to gone to a few games this year to see him play. looper121
Willie Green has gauranteed money left on his contract. The Sixers have possibly 2 of the worse regular rotation players in the NBA, Willie G. and Dalembust, both have garuanteed contracts. THANKS ALOT BILLIE KING!!! Your legacy still lives here in Sixerville. phong60073- but yet we hang on to willie green. amazing
Comment removed.- That's a shame the Sixers got rid of the local kid.... speaking of local kids.... Is Malik Rose's run in the NBA over? Did anyone pick him up? Anyone need a rebounder off the bench? joeolive
