76ers agree to terms with Carney
The 76ers have agreed to terms with forward Rodney Carney, this according to a source familiar with the situation.
Carney, 6-foot-7, has agreed to a 1-year deal. Previously, Carney spent two seasons with the Sixers: 2006-07, 2007-08. In July of 2008, Carney was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he played last season.
In his 3-year career, Carney has averaged 6.5 points and 2.0 rebounds a game.

YES! Can you say NBA Contender? Carney will make the Sixers a force to be reckoned with this upcoming season. I can't believe they got him this late in free agency, what a big move, this must be on ESPN somewhere......gosh I feel bad that Ed Snider puts any investment into this team and the people making player personnel decisions. Go Phillies. PhillyPhan35
wow i think NO ONE cares about the sixers. how sad. but love your work, Kate. keep it up! canada51stSTATE
Does it even matter anymore? Dean1
We're rounding out the bench. What do you guys want? Good, low-cost pickup. PGH76er
What we want is a great big man! Unless you have MJ, without a great big man it is tough to win it all. psuwelsh
I always liked Carney. He is a tweener though and we need a power forward, although I like the addition of Jason Smith returning after injury. maximus
Sixers? Yawn. UncleEddie

- The sixers are still in the NBA?
What a joke! Just when I thought they couldn't do anything to tick me off more they resign this bust of a first round pick. Carney stinks! And so do the Sixers. Shenkman3
Is the NBA still in business? Phront_Runner
Welcome back, Rodney - now please pull down your socks for your second stint on our beloved SIXERS! Leegles
Yeah, it's a bench pick-up, but we need an athletic wing guy off the bench, and Carney can be that for us. FKD215- Carney would appear to be a good fit for the motion offense.
Anybody else pitching in for Willie Green's plane ticket outta here? CAO
mediocre shooter at best, mediocre ball handler, mediocre passer, runs fast, jumps high, = sounds like everyone else on the Sixers! Get some guys who can play ball! shnuggleshnee- Outta my way, I need to set up my chairs on Broad Street. 1980
For a minute there, I thought they signed John Carney. P Even- no, he won't get us anywhere near a championship, but he is a good player and glad we got him back. solid bench guy or spot starter.
Rodney is back with the Sixers. All i can say is..... WHY? Did the sixers lose a bet with someone? philliekev04
Ok that did it. Can someone tell me when the NBA Finals are, I want to block out my vacation for that time. Th Sixers are surely going now. Right, they are going? Come on, this signing doesnt cement it? Pat c- this is great!!! another 6-6 to 6-8 guy who can't dribble or shoot BUT is a "great athlete." way to go little ed.

Rodney Carney was one of my favorites two years ago. I was sorry to see him traded, but he didn't do much with his opportunity in Minnesota. Has his jump shot continued to improve? Duracorr- I'd rather they signed Art Carney.
here's my dream: hope elton brand comes back healthy and loosely resembles the 20 and 10 guy so that we can trade him and thaddeus young for chris bosh at the trade deadline, sixers' tank the rest of the season, win the lottery, draft pg-john wall, and then sign shannon brown and raja bell in the offseason. next year's projected lineup: wall/holiday at pg, bell/williams at sg, iguodala/brown at sf, speights/smith at pf, and bosh/dalembert at c. if somehow that all happens, the sixers' will be able to finally compete against the lakers, cavs, celtics, and spurs for a championship. good luck stefanski!!!!!!!!! uscwee
Been a big Sixers fan since 1976. I can honestly say I have zero interest in this team. Between Snyder egoing out Croce to Stefanski trashing the cap space we waited years to get....they just sucked the life out of this fan base. JonKap

Also, can shoot the trey. Would love to see him take WG's minutes. person
Give me your tired and your poor yearning to play for the NBA minimum salary. Ed Stefanski has so miscalculated the NBA salary cap for this season the Sixers will be taking a severe step back. Presently, the Brand contract debacle makes the Dalembert contract look like the NBA minimum. The Sixers marketing department will be working overtime trying to get fans to come out to the games. Good luck!!! RunningTheBases
all part of the plan. the sixers will be one of the 5 worst teams in the league and get an amazing lottery pick to get that stud shooting guard in the 2010 draft. They arent winning a title anyway, so lose em all boyz meaned- who?
uscwee...What makes u think ANYONE has ANY interest in Iggy or Elton Brand....this team is screwed for years to come unless we can find some sucker to take theirs, Dalemberts and Willie Greene's HORRIBLE contracts DanGlesack

We have a basketball team? Mikell = Dawkins 2
I don't understand why there wasn't anything about Villanova in the blog when the topic was basketball. shakenbake
You guys are crazy! Am I the only one who remembers when the Sixers were losing to the Bulls like 2 seasons ago by 20 something points and then Rodney Carney came off the bench and annihilated them. We won that game too. I always felt they shouldn't had traded him. He has a lot of potential. Oh and let's not forget he dunked on Mr. Dwayne Wade lol go youtube it. deasytrent
Not a bad addition for the price. Carney's athletic, showed the past year and a half that he can shoot the 3-ball reliably. And has the tools to be a decent defender. Calling him a bust of a first round pick is overstating it bit. Sure, the Sixers drafted him about 20-25 slots too high. He should have been an early to mid 2nd round pick. But yet he's made himself a serviceable NBA player for 15 minutes a night, and now they've got him for the price of a cheap 2nd round pick. foxchaser2007
Kate, How is this guy going to get any minutes don't we have 3 or 4 of this type of player already? We have turned into the Atlanta Hawks of the last 10 yrs. all of the players were the same size and none of them are particularly good. MSG71
This may be good. He is another "No D" defense. We can't guard anybody but the point. Lets get rid of Drue and we are in. Ping, ping, ping! LaCroix,Nolet,Gendron
