Is it 2004 all over again?

As reported in today's Inquirer, the Sixers are bringing in former Lenape High and Rider forward Jason Thompson for a last-minute interview at PCOM this morning.

Does that remind anyone else of Andre Iguodala?

Back in 2004, the 76ers snuck Iguodala in for a late workout, at the request of his agent, who thought the Arizona prospect could fall to the Sixers at No. 9. The Sixers loved his workout, Iguodala fell to their pick and the rest is history.

Not to say this scenario is exactly the same, at all. Thompson has shot up draft boards recently and it could simply be the case of the Sixers completing all of their due-diligence before tonight's draft.

Thompson's agent, Andre Buck, said he and the 76ers have tried to have Thompson in for a workout earlier, but the schedules never matched up.

Thompson, it seems, could go anywhere from No. 14 (Golden State) down. He's 6-foot-11, 250 pounds and probably projects as a forward in the NBA.

The main concern about him is his limited shooting range. And, he didn't exactly dominate the MAAC while with Rider. Still, 20.4 points and 12.1 rebounds per game are nothing to scoff at.

Buck said first-round interest in Thompson "has definitely increased" recently.

Joe Juliano wrote about the Sixers being satisfied with drafting a project tonight. They do, after all, have $11 million to spend beginning July 1. 76ers GM Ed Stefanski also said it's "unlikely" the team will add a second-round pick.
