ESPN: Bynum's latest bruise from bowling

POSTED: Sunday, November 18, 2012, 12:28 AM

Did 76ers center Andrew Bynum cause further damage - including a new bone bruise and cartilage damage – to his knees while bowling?

According to a report on ESPN.com, this might be the case. Citing multiple sources, ESPN.com reported that Bynum, who has yet to play for the Sixers, may have caused himself further damage while bowling.

There are several activities that are prohibited in standard NBA player contracts, but bowling is not one of them. Bynum is known to enjoy bowling, ESPN.com reported.

On Friday, Bynum reported that he experienced a setback in his recovery. Already hampered by a bruised bone in his right knee, Bynum said that he has also suffered a similar injury in his left knee. Bynum is scheduled to begin basketball related activities in early Dec.

''''''''Another big story broken by another national reporter. Why bother having beat guys, all the stories in all the sports are broken by national folks.
    — toe bee'''''''''No LOCAL negative stories allowed-they have to come from the outside-if true or otherwise.

'''''''''Living in Florida I get to watch Magic games and have enjoyed seeing Vucevic be a 12-10 guy - certainly something we could have used in the form of an un-injured 21 year old.
    — 7mel11''''''''''''Said last year he would be something special.Watched him a few times and you just see his confidence growing. He is special-just not a banger.

Seems like the AB honeymoon is over.He is the current local hoops whipping boy.Welcome home AB.

Much of this is due to all the hype-from many sources-prior and when this man arrived.Selling seats/tickets a big priority.

The main source of hype was the money hungry front office. This is what happens when selling tickets is the main priority. Everything revolves around marketing

I believe the Sixers owe Bynam a $1 million bonus if he keeps his average above 175.

Speaking as someone who used to bowl but stopped because of knee problems and the pressure it would put on them when flexed, all I can say is...are you kidding me? And how he is going to play basketball under these circumstances? The new DX of cartilage being weakened--well, there are new experimental treatments, but generally speaking conventional wisdom is that cartilage damage can only get worse, not better. the body doesn't regrow cartilage. If anything will cause cartilage tears--it's a basketball season. I don't care how talented this guy is. Anyone who gives him a max contract is out of their minds. He has Bill Walton and Jeff Ruland written all over him. If his knees are this bad at his age, they will only get worse as a basketball player.

I wondered why he didn't react negatively from being traded from the lakers to thesecond class sixers...looks like he had no intention of playing in philly. Sixers brass are morons if they don'trealize they will NEVER sign him to an extension. Why did he go to his own doctor for this "new" diagnosis???

Another great draft choice(AI 2). This is what happens when you ignore character in the talent evaluation process.

It's pretty clear this guy is in no hurry to come back until he's 100%. Then he'll play the final two months well rested and cash in on a big contract.

Wow: not much love for a 7:0 foot bowler trying to convert that 7-10 split. This has been one of the most bizarre episodes in Philly sports history, with a befuddled, deceptive front office, a seemingly clueless coach running the show, and a new ownership group who is learning that making millions from buying up distressed companies, stripping them of assets and flipping them is much easier than turning a mid-level NBA team into a championship team. Back to the drawing board, I fear.

Climbing Mt Everest in your undies is easier than turning a mid-level NBA team into a chamionship. What makes this even more bizarre is that every important development was broken by the national media.

Thank God Bynum didn't hurt the knee while climbing a flight of steps -- an activity as taxing as bowling -- or he'd be likened to the Antichrist on this board. Lighten up, guys.

He clearly has no interest in playing here long term...he will come back in about April, play well enough for some team to offer him his huge payday, then good riddance!
