Sixers hopeful for Brown Wednesday: Moultrie to see more action?
When the 76ers face the Detroit Pistons Wednesday at Wells Fargo Center they hope to have center Kwame Brown back in the lineup, according to coach Doug Collins.
“I’m hoping that Kwame will be able to give us some minutes tomorrow,” Collins said following practice on Tuesday.
Brown has missed the last four games due to a calf strain – the same calf strain that forced him out of the first two games of the season – and he has only appeared in one game with the Sixers. But with big men Lavoy Allen and Spencer not providing the Sixers with much consistency, Collins needs Brown on the floor.
Allen has been held scoreless on 0-for-7 shooting and grabbed just one rebound as the Sixers split games with Toronto and Milwaukee. Hawes has been better over the same time span – he’s combined for 18 points and 16 rebounds – but Collins knows that the Sixers have to have to get more physicality out of what thus far has been a non-existent post-up game.
And that’s why on Tuesday Collins also said, “I’m going to have to let Arnett [Moultrie] get out there and get some minutes.”
Slowed for three months this past summer – he didn’t scrimmage until Sept. – due to a sprained left ankle, the 6-10 rookie from Mississippi said he’s ready to go when Collins calls his number.
“I have to take advantage of every opportunity so I’m looking forward to tomorrow night,” Moultrie said.
Collins constantly texts his guys when he’s not around him. So what have the messages Collins has texted Moultrie, getting piecemeal minutes so far, said?”
“He tells me to make sure I stay motivated, don’t get discouraged and stay focused,” Moultrie said. “I just let him know that I’m going to continue to work hard and be patient.
“Obviously I don’t want to see my teammates struggle like this,” Moultrie continued, “but at the same time it’s a business. I’ve got to be ready when my name is called.”
Collins is not even close to give Arnett playing time. i know Collins does'nt trust his rookies. Wolverine42
I'll believe it when I see it. There is no way he could do worse than Lavoy at this point. Much rather see Moultrie getting minutes at the 4 than freaking Damian Wilkins!!!

They need some type of physcial presence down low that isn't afraid to bang bodies. This what they brought Kwame in to do and what they thought Lavoy could provide this year. Neither has worked out so far. Hawes would rather fload around in the 10 foot perimeter and knock down jumpers. If Moultrie can play sound defense and work the glass, he will find himself some nice minutes with this team. bdd5014
Moultrie will be a stud...he led the SEC in rebounding and averaged about 17 poins per game....Moultrie will get his chance and show his talent. jim35
Let Arnett play a little.Maybe some of the other bigs will wake up.Its early so whats to lose? HO HUM
Here's a given...Moultrie will see more minutes than Bynum the Bust will see this year. scootch
Good to hear that Moultrie may get into the fray...Although the upcoming teams are weak, some intriguing bigs will be in S Philly....Monroe/Drummond...Jefferson/Favors/Kanter...Valanciunas......Varejao, which dictates physicality in the low post...Agree with Ho Hum, what's to lose?...Let's see what we've got here. bearsfriend

Why is it so hard for Doug to give his young guys some playing time? We got murdered underneath last night again and the logical move is to give Arnett some PT. With Kwame and Bynum not playing, Lavoy slumping badly, and Hawes roaming around the top of the key most of the night isn't it just like the logical thing to do? Why does it pain Doug so much "I guess I've got to get Arnett out there and get some minutes". Would also like to see Wayans getting a few minutes every game too based on the promise he has shown in the preseason. Really don't need to see Royale and Wilkins....we know what they are and what they will never be. Went through this all season last year with Meeks. C'mon Doug, we are a little shorthanded these days and it's early. Give the young guys some minutes. dave13- 19 year old Moe Harkless more than held his own this past week for the magic...Last night against the Knicks, he got 19 minutes...scored 10 points on 5-7 shooting, 7 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots. Very active player. Ouch.

I've said it to a few of my friends there's a free agent out there with a little baggage,But he's better then what we have Kenyon Martin. He's only asking for the veterans minimum. Thats cheap. He brings a little defensive edge and rebounding. I know he might be a little out of control but I think Doug can handle him. If not you let him go. Your not hurting anything. But beleave this he won't be out there to long . I think he could bring a little attitude to the team. duncan2288
Doug is from the Larry Brown school on rookies. They are mainly practice players - ask Vucevic who is a 12-10 guy now he gets minutes 7mel11

Yes, I've been watching Vucevic noticing he continues to develop (no surprise here...he showed promise last year until he got buried on the bench) and of course Harkless numbers jumped out at me the other night. But as you know Harkless would never see the court here with Doug. Vucevic I still feel he will obviously become a solid NBA center. It's just extra painful now as we are once again struggling badly underneath. dave13
Every regular on this board noted during the draft that it didn't matter who we drafted since DC would never give them meaningful minutes anyway. I'm glad Doug is at least consistent. It doesn't matter if its the 16th, 27th or 2nd pick, he won't get much burn on a DC led team. Sorry Arnett. Oh, and Maalik. ericthered1
Wouldn't have to worry about a big man if the we took the best player available over Evan Turner a couple years ago who was Demarcus Cousins. mattt

I am very happy for this announcement. Moultrie was projected as our future Big Man after the draft day deal from Miami if we had not gotten Bynum all eyes would be on this kid .I say ley him play and develope, especially in the event Bynum can't go or setbacks arrive. If he proves productive, we have either a future Centre or a good sub for Bynum or the 4 position. Just look at what Vucevic is doing in Orlando with minutes kerryt
Vucevic rode the bench at the end of last season because he was obviously tired and his legs looked like they were made of rubber. If he was producing, he would have seen minutes. damageboy
From all the interviews I have seen it looks like DC is ready to play arnette. Laoy has been pathetic...spenc is either the best player on the court, or the worse..Spencer hawes is officially the worst screen setting bigman in the league. I dont care how long it take Bynum n bROWN TO HEAL. As soon as hey re ready, make them wait an extra two weeks before they get back on the court. I dont care how long they are out for, but once they ae back on the court, I EXPECT them to STAY ON THE COURT. Hold them out til febuary fr all I care.Just give them the best odds of it not being a reoccuring thing. Very excited to see how Arnette holds it down against Monroe and Drummond (who I thought was 2 years away from seeing minutes). johnGiam
So we are getting crushed on boards, and DC keeps ET on the bench, most of the second half. Really?!? Agreed with DC and the LB comparisons. Will be intriguing to see how Larry works as a college coach with nothing but young guys. Wayans could have helped slow down the Bucks fast backcourt. I thought that is what he is supposed to bring to the club?!? pzales
if he didnt play Malik against the bucks, it means we wont be seeing malik anytime soon. would love to be able to see how malik n Moultrie do at practice. all I know is we better run the pistons off the court tonight! go sixers! johnGiam
