Turner to get Friday off against Nets; Dan Gadzuric waived
In Friday’s preseason game at Brooklyn against the Nets, 76ers coach Doug Collins said that he will be giving Evan Turner the night off.
Collins has been giving his regulars a game off and said it’s likely Jrue Holiday will get one of the last two preseason games off.
Kwame Brown, who missed Wednesday’s 113-99 preseason win over the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers with a left calf strain, won’ t play Friday.
Collins did say he would like to play Brown Sunday in Boston and Monday in Syracuse against the New York Knicks if possible.
“We have to be prepared if Andrew (Bynum) is not ready to go and we will need a bigger body,” Collins said about Brown.
In addition, Jason Richardson, who got the night off against Cleveland as he was battling some tendonitis, will play on Friday.
The 76ers waived center Dan Gadzuric early Friday evening. He did not appear in any preseason games. There are now 15 players on the team's roster.
Start Nick Young and Dorrell Wright at 2 and 3. These guys are excellent additions to this squad. Bobby V
"we have to be prepared if andrew is not ready to go"! not the phrase i'd use knowing the town is already hyperventilating over bynums knee as is. why not say we want everybody hitting on all cylinders at full health by holloween? for pr purposes doug, don't mention andrews name the rest of the preseason unless it's because he's been cleared to play or looks good in practice. otherwise we have 500 posters ending the season before it starts. 76ers in 2076
ET sitting due to his tweaked knee I would guess. Why was this not even mentioned in the article? The2ndMostInterestingManInTheWorld
We have been critical of ET's play so far, now we're going to witness how much we'll need his defense and rebounding on Friday night. Evan is a perfect blend on this starting 5, he does all the dirty work, and plays with grit. I'm not asking for him to lead the league in scoring, just 12 points, 8 boards, and man-up on the other teams 3 each night. Thats his role. edogs- I hope he means that much to the team as from your POV, because he doesn't look very comfortable right now with everyone else. His offensive game is sure showing its flaws, when comparing him to everyone else.

edogs: The problem with your statement about Friday night is Turner got scorched by Gerald Wallace the last time we played the Nets. Can't see how his replacement can do any worse PokerBrat
ET is the man, leaves it all on the court most every night. Should sit Richardson as long as he needs and get him some fish oil. gubbers97
Man up on the 2 every night is a realistic goal for him (ET) this year. Having him play bigger, stronger guys EVERY NIGHT is a bit much to ask. phillyroni
Well ET is the new Iggy and that's his role. To guard the other teams sg or sf and rebound, assist, and create for team mates. male
Anyone who's know a thing about basketball can't say when they watch Evan Turner play that he looks like the #2 overall pick...he's a poor fit for this offense and Doug's scheme...I just hope we can trade him before the entire league realizes how bad he really is. BlitzMag- And that's the other POV (mine too). I would think if a guy is hungry and athletic, DC can teach him how to have plus minutes on the court. (plus/minus stat)
I hope ET is worth his weight in that regard, but I have my doubts right now. ...Time will tell, I guess. justacarpenter
