Wayns headed to Sixers camp, Jardine to the Bobcats
John Mitchell, Inquirer Staff Writer
When the Sixers convene training camp in October, Villanova and Roman Catholic point guard Maalik Wayns will be among the hopefuls vying for a spot on the roster.
While terms of the deal were not announced, Wayns’ agent, Andy Miller, confirmed that Wayns had indeed signed the contract on Monday morning.
Wayns, 6-1 ½ who left school following his junior season, averaged 17.4 points per game on 41.4 percent shooting. He also averaged 4.6 assists per game.
While the Sixers signed veteran point guard Royal Ivey to back up starting point guard Jrue Holiday, Wayns conceivably could make the team as a third point guard. His main competition here is Xavier Silas. Silas suffered a facial injury during play at the Orlando Summer league that required surgery.
In another development, Scoop Jardine, who broke a foot three days before the draft, will probably receive an invitation to come to training camp with the Charlotte Bobcats, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Jardine, who played high his high school ball at Neumann-Goretti, averaged 8.9 points and 4.9 assists as a senior with the Wildcats.
When did Scoop Jardine play with Wayns at VU? I must have missed those years.... JimWar
Been waiting for this confirmation....The Sixers finally got one right here...Quick and strong with the ball, this kid excelled in Rookie League with the Magic, and I'm glad the Sixers noticed...Heart,motor, and a a chip on his shoulder all will play in his favor, and he's in a situation he WANTS to be in...He'll be in total pass first mode...Show them what you've got, and make them keep ya as #14 man on the roster...Maine Red Claws is better than Europe. bearsfriend
LOL - Scoop Jardine. Villanova. Same sentence. Wow. davids44
I agree, bear, he sure did look good for the Magic. And I'm certain his assist to turnover ratio will beat that of Silas in camp - since Silas will have zero in the numerator. phils_tnj1- Scoop did not go to VU. I am not sure I can take this article seriously. Get the facts straight! bob2
about time the sixers sign a free agent who will actually be part of the future ond not another 1 year rent a player. He is the only traditional point guard we have that might be a part of the future. I really do believe in his game. He is a good kid, so being a pro in his hometown wont be a problem. Haha my man scoop is on the bobcats. He dates Jordans daughter! awesoime! johnGiam
Eddie "the team-killer" Jordan going to Lakers...short the Lakers! JBP
