Oprah to host Oscars?

The talk show queen is being courted by the Academy Awards

And the winner is….Oprah?

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that TV legend Oprah Winfrey is a solid favorite to host the Academy Awards in February.

Hey, she'd have to be better than the James Franco – Anne Hathaway tandem who laid bigger eggs than a black swan

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences is focusing on Oprah in hopes that she will bless their awards show with big ratings. (Of course, the Academy gets free publicity just for floating the rumor. It could just as well say Kate Middleton is going to host. Doesn't mean it's going to happen.)

Negotiations reportedly could hinge on Oprah's struggling cable channel, OWN, getting exclusive rights to some pre- and post-Oscar coverage. ABC, which broadcasts the show, obviously would be loathe to surrender that access.

Ms. O is no stranger to Hollywood's big night. While hosting the shindig in 1995, David Letterman delivered his notorious "Oprah? Uma. Uma? Oprah" introduction. (see video below) Winfrey gave the camera the obligatory chuckle, but she was not amused.
