Missing “Lost” scene provides the answers

Has there ever been a TV series as enigmatic and multi-layered as ABC's Lost?

By the end of six seasons, some fans who followed every twist and turn of the castaways' saga began to think that the show's creators were just making it up as they went along.

Wrong-o, Hurley-breath.

A deleted scene that Lost producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse exhumed this weekend at Comic-Con (see video, below) indicates a clearly marked road map was there early on.

At a symposium in San Diego, "Totally Lost: One Year Later Panel", the show's masterminds screened a scene deleted from the season one finale. It may have been puzzling at that juncture but it sure explains a lot in retrospective.

As a whispery John Locke (Terry O'Quinn) tries to persuade a skeptical Jack (Matthew Fox) that they have all been brought to the island for a reason, the archipelago's deities look on, squabbling comically in the bushes.

Jacob (Mark Pellegrino) and the Man in Black (Titus Welliver) – addressed here as Barry(??) – reference many of the series' ensuing plot lines: time travel, the Smoke Monster, Desmond pushing the button in the hatch, the fountainhead of light.

So the mystic vision was there all along. Unless…. Lindelof and Cuse taped this Rosetta Stone of a scene on a sound stage last week.
