Matt Lauer rides Jim Carrey bareback

'Today' host Matt Lauer took a morning ride – on Jim Carrey

"I can't believe I rode Jim Carrey," Matt Lauer said on Thursday's Today.

Well, you did. (see video below) Carrey was scheduled to appear to promote his new comedy, Mr. Popper's Penguins. By way of teasing Carrey's segment, Lauer said "From horseplay with your kids to horseplay with Jim Carrey."

That was all the encouragement Carrey needed. He immediately galloped onto the set on all fours, whinnying loudly, preventing the morning show from going to commercial.

Lauer went with the bit, running over to "mount" the comedian, slapping him on the haunches as they trotted across the studio.

"Come on, little Matty! Come on, little Matty," exhorted Carrey as if he were playing with a child. "Who's a cowboy? That's a good cowboy!"

Carrey also heckled newsreader Natalie Morales as she was showing footage of the hockey riots in Vancouver last night.

"Low self-esteem and Molson Export do not mix," Carrey kibitzed from off-camera.

Not sure what any of this has to do with penguins, but it sure was funny.
