‘Idol’ results: All you single ladies

For the first time, an all-female Top 5

Well, it's official. The long and terribly bland reign of WGWG is over.

The initials stand for White Guy With Guitar, a short-hand way of referencing the gender gap on American idol. The last time a female won Fox's talent show was in 2007, when teenager Jordin Sparks took the crown.

Even last year, when females outnumbered males in the Top 5, Phillip Phillips still won.

Well, that won't happen this year. With the departure last night of Lazaro Arbos, America has an all-female Top Five for the first time in 12 seasons. The finalists are Candice Glover, Kree Harrison, Angie Miller, Janelle Arthur and Amber Holcomb.

Really, the only comparable year was season 3 when we had a distaff Top 4 composed of Fantasia. Diana DeGarmo, Jasmine Trias and LaToya London.

What passes for order has been restored in the Idol kingdom.
