Alec Baldwin is not a fan of Philadelphia
It’s intended to be a comic commercial about the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry. Until Alec Baldwin takes a gratuitous southern detour to dump on Philadelphia.
In the ad for sportswear maker New Era that will roll out this week (see video below), Yankee fan Alec Baldwin (‘30 Rock’) is talking trash with Red Sox fan John Krasinski (‘The Office’).
Krasinski asks if Baldwin is now a Phillies fan since Cliff Lee spurned New York for the City of Brotherly Love.
Baldwin responds condescendingly, “You know Yankee fans don’t consider Philadelphia to be a legitimate sports town.”
Them’s fighting words. You’re lucky the Phillies aren’t scheduled to face the Yankees in interleague play this season. We would give you such a beating like you’ve never had!

As an example, I'm ambivalent (I hope that word wasn't too big for most of you) about the Cowboys, but hate the freakin' NY Football Giants and anything remotely related to the Big crab apple. - Wow are there really people upset about what the writers have Alec Baldwin (who's basically playing his 30 Rock character, Jack) in this commercial? Seriously, how insecure can you be to be upset or threatened by this? I'm a huge fan of all Philadelphia sports teams, and I can say this commercial is funny, and Baldwin is hilarious.
An earlier poster's idea of having Tina Fey defend Philadelphia as a sports town in a follow-up commercial is brilliant.— bobby-d - Just saw the spot during Fox's broadcast of today's Yankees-Red Sox game. It is rather funny, but for the gratuitous swipe at Philly. Can't wait until we smack them around in the World Series!
