Alec Baldwin promotes this weekend's ‘SNL’ opener

NBC’s venerable sketch comedy returns this weekend for its 37th season with Baldwin as host

Can it really be 37 years? I've got trees in my yard that aren't that old. Comedy perennial Saturday Night Live starts its newest season this weekend with its most experienced host, Alec Baldwin (see the three promos he taped for the show, below) at the helm.

It's 16 times for Baldwin if you're keeping track at home.

Wonder if he'll do the recurring skit where he plays Pete Schweddy? Ben & Jerry's recently came up with a flavor, Schweddy Balls, in tribute to the sketch's double entendre/punchline.

Vanilla with rum and fudge covered malt balls if you're keeping track at home.

One Million Moms, a conservative parenting group, has called for a boycott, posting on its website: ""The vulgar new flavor has turned something as innocent as ice cream into something repulsive. Not exactly what you want a child asking for at the supermarket."

Yeah, so you can be pretty sure Baldwin will be dustuing that one off.

The musical guest on Saturday will be Radiohead, which is very good news for me. I just figured out last week that it was Radiohead I enjoyed all along. I don't like Coldplay much at all. If you're keeping track at home.
