'Real Housewives of NJ' recap: Teresa vs. the world

You could have cut the air of menace last night with a curling iron. No, we’re not talking about the episode of Boardwalk Empire. We mean the other Sunday cable series set in the Garden State: Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New Jersey which held part one of its reunion show on the stage at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank.

There were no punches exchanged, no hair pulled, no makeup smeared, but I suspect the ladies must have been velcroed to their seats. Certainly things got heated.

It was three to one, ganging up on (who else?) Teresa Giudice. (It would have been four to one but Jacqueline Laurita didn’t show up because she can’t stand the sight of TG.)

And while Teresa might have been outnumbered, she was certainly not outgunned. She gave better than she got all night long. At one point, she told her primary antagonist, Caroline Manzo, “You're such a freaking liar! I'm like looking at Exorcist right now. You're, like, spinning...You're a freaking liar. You’re pathetic.”

There were some lighter moments, particularly host Andy Cohen’s look back at the curious regional dialect of New Jersey. It was like listening to a Norm Crosby routine, wouldn’t youse agree?

Round two, next Sunday at 10 p.m.
