Philadelphia's got soul and an official certificate from the Guinness World Records to prove it.
Mayor Nutter accepted the certificate today in City Hall from 100.3 WRNB-FM Radio which spearheaded the event for the largest Soul Train Dance where 291 participants boogied near the Art Museum in February setting a new world record. Guinness World Records notified organizers in December that Philly had beat the previous record.
"Obviously we have a lot of challenges going on in our city and we have for some time, but in the midst of all of that sometimes you just have to take a moment and acknowledge and celebrate just some true Philadelphia love peace and soul," Nutter said.
The previous world record of 211 dancers was set by students at the University of California, Berkeley.
Nutter and other local leaders like Rep. Bob Brady were among the participants who danced at the bottom of the Art Museum steps.
"You could feel the beauty that day," Nutter said. "The whole city just came together in a moment."
