The legislation that would allow the city to raise the sales tax temporarily and defer some payments into the pension fund is in the hands of the state Senate. But so far no vote has been scheduled.

We hear Mayor Nutter plans to head to Harrisburg tomorrow to again push for passage of the bill, which would be worth $700 million over five years. Nutter is set to send layoff notices to 3,000 city workers on Friday, if the state Senate does not approve the budget relief.
