In advance of the Tuesday vote by the state House of Representatives on House Bill 1828 -- which would provide the city with budget relief -- the state police and fire unions will hold a Harrisburg press conference to criticize pension amendments tacked on to the bill by the state Senate.

HARRISBURG (Sept. 3, 2009) – Fraternal Order of Police, Pennsylvania State Lodge President Les Neri and Pennsylvania Professional Firefighters Association (PPFFA) President Art Martynuska will urge House members to reject House Bill 1828, a measure that would wrongfully strip away local control of police pension plans, putting the financial future of Pennsylvania's police officers and firefighters in jeopardy. A news conference, set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Officials will shed light on this so-called "pension reform," being rammed through the legislature as an amendment to legislation originally designed to increase the sales tax to help bailout the City of Philadelphia.
