State GOP fund-raising off City Commission voter report

Al Schmidt, the lone Republican on the Philadelphia City Commission, made two things clear on Tuesday when he released a report detailing what he called voting irregularities and fraud in local elections -- His investigation was not done to justify state legislation requiring voters to show identification at the polls and the effort was not about politics.

But that didn't stop the Pennsylvania Republican Party from quickly using Schmidt's 24-page report as a political fund-raising tool while touting the Voter ID legislation.

Here's what Schmidt had to say Tuesday: "This is not a partisan political document. It's a document created by our office, funded by taxpayer dollars to determine something that I think is of public interest."

Here's what Rob Gleason, chairman of the Pennsylvania Republican Party, said in an email Thursday: "We can't allow our elections to be stolen anymore. Republicans passed critical Voter ID legislation this year, a commonsense reform that will help ensure voters are protected, but that's only the first step."

The next step? Sending the GOP "$15, $20, $50 or more today," according to Gleason. Doing that, he added, would "stand up to liberals and help us protect Pennsylvania's elections."

In a June 26 email to supporters, Singer wrote: "This year, I've taken on Pennsylvania's conservatives over their new Voter Photo ID law. It's unnecessary, undemocratic and unfair."  That email included links to her campaign web site and a fund-raising web site.

Yesterday, Philadelphia officials released an alarming report showing that hundreds of cases of voter fraud had occurred during the past election. In Philadelphia, non-citizens are voting. People not registered to vote are voting. People are voting multiple times in multiple locations. Every illegal vote cancels out a valid vote, so thanks to Philadelphia voter fraud, your vote doesn't count.
