Dave Davies is over at the Kimmel Center where Seth Williams was just sworn in as the city's first African-American District Attorney.
The theme of Williams' remarks was "getting smarter on crime." He spoke about working more closely with kids, treating drug addicts instead of warehousing them and taking on corruption.
"We will root our corruption and prosecute it ourselves," said Williams, who replaces former DA Lynne Abraham, who decided not to run for re-election after 18 years in office.
Williams acknowledged Abraham graciously, but did make a pointed comment about her tenure during his speech.
"Four years from now, when I stand before you again, we will not have the lowest conviction rate in America," Williams said.
To Mayor Nutter, Williams said: "We've done pretty good for a couple of guys from West Philly, haven't we?"
Meanwhile, don't count Abraham out of public life just yet. During a press conference after the inauguration, she said she would announce plans to seek another office "soon."
