Report: More bicyclists coming into Center City

Philadelphians like bicycling into Center City.

And a study by the Center City District shows that more people –an increase of 10.5 percent commute downtown by bike.

The survey conducted in the first two weeks of October cite an uptick in the number of young adults living in Center City coupled with the installation of dedicated bike lanes and rising gas prices as reasons for increased bicyclists.

Some of the city's dedicated bike lanes like 22nd street have had 161 riders per an hour and 13th street has had 150 an hour, according to the report. Last year a bike lane was installed on 13th street and there alone was a 67 percent increase in riders.

The Philadelphia City Planning Commission recommends installation of up to 117 new miles of bike lanes throughout the city. For more, read the report here.
