Recent Pew Poll Shows Many Philadelphians Optimistic Despite Tough Times

Although Philadelphians are dealing with tough economic times, many think the city is still headed in the right direction, according to a recent poll by the Pew Charitable Trusts.

Pew's Philadelphia Research Initiative today put out a second report based on a recent poll. They last week released data on Mayor Nutter's opinion ratings, showing that a majority of Philadelphians approve of the job he is doing. The poll surveyed 1,602 Philadelphians and was conducted by Abt SRBI Public Affairs.

According to today's report, 41 percent of Philadelphias think the city is heading in the right direction, compared with 34 percent that think it's not. But some of the economic findings are grim: 49 percent said there had been a time in the last 12 months when someone in their household had been jobless, 65 percent are concerned about maining their standard of living and 65 percent rated their personal finance situation as fair or poor.
