Mayor Nutter has a new ride. And it's friendly to the environment.
Nutter is now being chauffeured around in a Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid. He got the brand new hybrid SUV last Thursday.
Nutter said he heard about this vehicle last fall and contacted Chevrolet. He said he wanted to drive a hybrid -- which use more than one fuel source and save on gasoline -- to set an example.
"I think increasingly in government we're going to have to provide that kind of leadership," Nutter said.
Nutter said that his mayoral campaign committee paid for the car and donated it to the city. According to Chevrolet's website, the Tahoe Hybrid starts at $50,490.
"I wanted to purchase a vehicle, donate it to the city," said Nutter, who never took a city car during his years as a councilman.
The car got its first test on Friday, after the overnight snowstorm. Nutter had to drop daughter Olivia off at Masterman, where she is a 7th-grader, before coming to work. They made it in just fine.
