Mayor Nutter today named former Daily News reporter Mark McDonald as his new spokesman.
McDonald joined the Nutter administration as a speechwriter in 2008. He previously spent 21 years covering government for the Philadelphia Daily News, serving as the city hall bureau chief. He starts tomorrow and his salary will be $120,000, with a five percent reduction.
Doug Oliver, who has served as press secretary since Nutter took office, announced last month that he was leaving to take a senior job with the Philadelphia Gas Works.
Nutter recently also hired a communications director – a job that has been unfilled for almost a year. Desiree Peterkin Bell, who last worked for Newark Mayor Cory Booker, started in that gig last week, which pays $150,000 with a five percent reduction.
