NUTTER TO PHILADELPHIANS: VOTE VICTORINO!

Philadelphia, July 7, 2009 – Mayor Michael A. Nutter took to the streets yesterday in support of Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino’s bid to make the National League team for this year’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game to be played in St. Louis, July 14, 2009. Mayor Nutter campaigned with Victorino in South Philadelphia yesterday afternoon, encouraging residents to get online and vote for Victorino.

“Last night’s incredible performance demonstrated just what a talent Shane Victorino is, certainly worthy of the All-Star Game,” said Mayor Nutter. “Unlike regular elections, you can vote early and often for Shane, and he needs all of our support. I urge everyone to get online and vote for Victorino!”

Chase Utley, Raul Ibanez, and Ryan Howard have already made the National League All-Star squad. Victorino now vies for the final spot on the team, competing against four other NL players in an online vote. Charlie Manuel will serve as manager of the NL team.

Fans can vote an unlimited number of times on www.phillies.com or mlb.vote.com until Thursday at 4 p.m. EDT. After the first day of voting, Victorino was in second place behind Pablo Sandoval, San Francisco Giants third baseman.
