Mayor Nutter today criticized Gov. Corbett's choice of Councilman Bill Green to lead the School Reform Commission, saying in a statement that he is "perplexed" by the nomination given Green's voting record on some some school-funding proposals.
"I find his nomination quite frankly perplexing given his votes against some education funding measures and his published views on public education. As Mayor, I have a duty to raise these concerns over his appointment," Nutter said.
The comments are surprising because Nutter is typically diplomatic when discussing other officials. But Green and the mayor certainly have a past.
Green was a freshman on Council when Nutter took over the Mayor's Office, and he made a name for himself by aggressively questioning administration officials in budget hearings.
Nutter is about to hold a press conference. More to come after that.
