Milton Street hawking buttons at Democratic Convention

You can say a lot of things about former state Sen. Milton Street Sr. -- he went to federal prison for not filing taxes, he owes more than a million in back taxes to the feds, New Jersey and Philadelphia -- but you can't say the man doesn't hustle for a living.

City Councilman Curtis Jones Jr. just tweeted a picture of Street selling buttons outside of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. this week.  Jones calls Street a "friend and brother, taking advantage of an entrepreneurial opportunity."

Street, you may recall, ran against Mayor Nutter in last year's Democratic Primary Election, taking one out of every four votes.   Street was sentenced in 2008 to 30 months in federal prison for convictions on misdemeanor charges of not filing taxes.  He was released to a halfway house in June 2010 and then supervised release in November 2010.  He was still on federal probation when he entered the mayor's race in February, 2011.

Street also made an aborted run for the 197th state House seat in North Philadelphia earlier this year.  He dropped out of that race to run in a special election for the seat and lost.
