Mayor Nutter Issues Statement On Death Of His Father

Philadelphia, November 27 – Mayor Michael A. Nutter has issued the following statement on the passing of his father, Mr. Basil D. Nutter, Jr.

"On behalf of my family I would like to convey our deepest gratitude for the many expressions of condolence and concern that we have received from members of the public. To know that the thoughts and prayers of so many Philadelphians are with us is of great comfort at this difficult time. My father was a great inspiration to us and we will miss him dearly. We are taking this time to remember and give thanks for the countless good times that we spent with him."

A memorial mass will be held for Mr. Nutter at 11 a.m., Saturday December 5, 2009, at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 46 Central Avenue, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.

The family requests that those wishing to express their condolences do so through letters or cards directed to the Mayor's Office, Room 215 at City Hall.

Mr. Basil D. Nutter, Jr., died of natural causes on Wednesday 25 November, 2009. He was 76 years old. He was raised in South Philadelphia at 22nd and Montrose and attended South Philadelphia High School. He served three years in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Division. He had two children, Michael and Renee, three sisters, and his former spouse is Ms. Catalina Bargas.
