Local 22 is claiming that the fire commissioner and a human resources manager lied under oath when being questioned about 14 of its members who had promotions retracted earlier this year.
According to union president Joe Schulle, Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers and Human Resources Manager Karen Hyers perjured themselves during testimony before a Common Pleas judge in September.
Schulle alleges Ayers and Hyers lied to a judge about the dates of a promotional test and also the dates of the subsequent demotions.
“Commissioner Ayers stripped 14 of our brothers of their earned promotions,” Schulle said during a press conference outside City Hall today. “In doing so, he stripped them of their dignity and derailed their careers within the Philadelphia Fire Department.”
Over the summer, when the promotions were rescinded, the union took the city to court and lost.
Reached by phone Friday, fire department Executive Chief Rich Davison confirmed that the promotions were reneged, and that Ayers is aware of the union’s claims but has no reaction at this time.
Schulle said he alerted the district attorney’s Office, which is not commenting on the matter.
