Judge upholds recent firefighters' arbitration award

Common Pleas Court Judge Idee C. Fox upheld a recent firefighter's arbitration award on Monday.

The city appealed an arbitration award which was first issued in 2010. In July, an arbitration panel issued another award similar to the previous one which included three years of three percent raises, protection from unpaid furloughs and more funding for health benefits. The city again appealed.

The city had argued the award would be too costly. But Fox ruled to uphold the award.

Bill Gault head of the firefighters' union local 22 could not be immediately reached for comment.

Mayoral spokesman Mark McDonald said the administration has no comment at this time and they just received the court order. It is not clear if the administration appeal the award again.
