Hearing Begins In Nutter Effort to Get Milton Street Off Ballot

Mayor Nutter's challenge to T. Milton Street's eligibility to run in the mayoral primary election, started today when Common Pleas Judge Jimmy Lynn heard arguments about Street's residency.
Nutter claims that Street is ineligible to run for mayor because he has not been a resident of the city for the past three years as required by the city charter. Street, who was released from federal prison last year, insists that a court ruled that he was eligible to run for City Council in 2007 and his time behind bars does not change his Philadelphia residency.
Nutter's attorney, Michael Bowman, showed the judge and Street federal documents from Street's indictment which showed that he used an address in New Jersey. Streets said that was only one of his residences and said he considered his home was in Philadelphia
Lynn is considering these arguments, while attorneys for both candidates review Nutter's challenge to Street's nominating petitions. The hearing is set to resume Monday morning.
