U.S. Rep Bob Brady just spoke to reporters before heading to a morning meeting with Mayor Nutter and Dad Vail organizers. The congressman said he was confident that the longstanding regatta would be held in Philly in 2010 after all.
“I’m confident that in another hour there’s going to be a press conference to say Dad Vail is back,” Brady said.
The Dad Vail organizers last month announced plans to move the event to Rumson, N.J. for 2010, saying they had lost sponsors and were promised $250,000 in support to hold the race there. The announcement angered city officials, who said were never offered an opportunity to negotiate with Dad Vail.
This week Brady released a statement questioning whether Dad Vail organizers could really raise the promised cash.
