Maria Quinones-Sanchez backs GOP candidate for City Council

Councilwoman Maria Quinones-Sanchez and community leaders have endorsed David Oh for City Council --the top Republican vote getter in the primary who reportedly embellished his military record.

As the general election nears the endorsements are going out.

Oh has since lost an endorsement from the Fraternal Order of Police for misrepresenting himself.

October, 15, 2011 – This afternoon, Councilwoman Maria Quiñones Sánchez, joined Danilo Burgos, Chair, Latino Empowerment Alliance of Delaware Valley (LEAD) and community leaders in endorsing David Oh for City Council.  David Oh was the top vote getter in the Republican primary in May.  David is a lawyer, former Assistant District Attorney and has been recognized for his many accomplishments.  David's extensive resume and accomplishments can be reviewed at www.davidoh.com.

"He (David) will be a breath of fresh air in City Council and will bring great insights to help small business development in our neighborhoods and the city," stated Mr. Burgos, who is also President of the Dominican Merchants Association.  He added that David has been a long-time advocate of innovative business development and understands the importance of new immigrant businesses to our city. 

"David will be an important ally in Council—David gets it and understands neighborhood revitalization and the importance of business investment to create jobs and stabilize districts like mine," adds Councilwoman Sanchez.  Councilwoman Sanchez has been a long time friend and collaborator of David Oh.

"I am honored to receive the endorsements of Councilwoman Maria Quinones Sanchez and LEAD.  The Latino community is one of Philadelphia's largest, most diverse and promising communities.  At the same time, it has significant challenges that need to be addressed.  I look forward to working with Councilwoman Sanchez to bring out the best this community has to offer our city through global opportunities and the creative/innovative economy.  I also believe that we will be able to improve education, public safety and quality of life for the residents and businesses of this community as well as others throughout our city through policies which focus on retaining and attracting new residents and employers from across the nation and around the world, to our city," firmly stated David Oh.

LEAD will be organizing voters, particularly Democratic voters, to come out and vote for David Oh.  Latinos for David Oh will host a fundraiser on Tuesday, November 1st, 6 PM at Orlando"s Gallery, 433 West Girard Avenue in Philadelphia.

 LEAD is organized to advance the political empowerment of Delaware Valley's Latino Community with a primary focus on Philadelphia's Latino Community.  LEAD shall engage in political, community and social action that promote the Club's principles and policies.  Activities that promote the Club's goals shall include but are not restricted to: community improvement projects, voter registration, get out the vote efforts (pre-election and election day), providing a forum for Club members to meet candidates and officeholders, fundraising for candidates and campaigns, promoting Latino candidates for public and party offices, voter education, issue education and advocacy for policies of importance to Philadelphia's Latino community, and other similar activities. LEAD shall also seek to provide a social atmosphere where members can congregate to discuss issues and socialize.
