Councilman Goode Proposes Term Limits for City Council

City Council is back for their first session of 2010 and Councilman W. Wilson Goode Jr. plans to kick things off by proposing term limits legislation. How do you think this will go down with his colleagues?

(Philadelphia, January 28, 2010) – City Councilman At-Large W. Wilson Goode, Jr., primary sponsor of the City's first campaign finance law, introduced charter change legislation that would limit the amount of successive terms that can be served as a member of Philadelphia City Council.

The Philadelphia Home Rule Charter would be amended to provide that members of City Council shall be limited to three successive four-year terms, or one succeeding four-year term if elected in 2011.

Councilman Goode said, " The purpose of this legislation is to create opportunities for more people to serve; in fact, the odds of being employed as a legislator in this country are only 1 in 2091."
