City Posts "Behind the Scenes" Photos of Mayor

Two city interns have been taking photos of Mayor Nutter out and about over the past few weeks. You can check them out here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/phillycityrep/

Here's a press release about the project:

Philadelphia, July 21, 2010 – Today the Mayor's Office began to publish online a series of 'behind-the-scenes' photographs of Mayor Nutter, other members of the Administration, and citizens in neighborhoods and at events across Philadelphia. This is part of an ongoing effort to both provide citizens with a glimpse into the daily workings of city government and to continue to encourage different forms of artistic expression in Philadelphia. The program will be expanded to include agencies and departments across city government to highlight work that is being done in communities across the city.

The photographs were taken by two photography students – Mitchell Leff and Kait Privitera - who recently joined the Mayor's Office as unpaid interns through a partnership with Temple University and The Art Institute of Philadelphia. The photographs capture Mayor Nutter as well as regular Philadelphians in both formal and informal settings in neighborhoods across the city. They will be posted to Flickr® on a regular basis and the City of Philadelphia's account can be accessed by clicking on the Flickr® icon at www.phila.gov or at www.phila.gov/mayor/.

Mitchell Leff

Mitchell Leff, 26, is a Philadelphia native, with a bachelors degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management from Temple University. Currently Mitchell is attending classes at The Art Institute of Philadelphia where he is working towards a degree in Photography. Mitchell is a documentary photographer, who tries to tell stories while documenting history. Most of his photography focuses on sports, but this job working in the Mayor's office has opened his eyes to another world that fascinates him just as much as the sports world.

Kait Privitera

Kait Privitera is currently a senior at Temple University, graduating in January of 2011. She will be receiving her undergraduate degree in photojournalism and has plans to pursue a masters degree in documentary photography post-graduation. She has interned for Magnet Magazine, volunteered with the National Press Photographers Association sponsored program Northern Short Course, and during school semesters, works as a digital photo lab technician in the journalism department's photo lab. This past spring, she was awarded the Jay A. Strassberg Memorial Scholarship for displaying academic achievement in Temple's School of Communications. A fan of Pete Souza's photography work with President Obama, she sees this internship as an exciting opportunity to create something similar for the Philadelphia community.
