City Has Collected $7 Million So Far Through Tax Amnesty

Mayor Nutter today said that the city has collected $7.1 million so far though the ongoing tax amnesty program -- and urged tax delinquents to pay up before the program ends on June 25.

"You do not want to deal with us on June 26," Nutter said.

The amnesty program -- which kicked off on May 3 --  is open to any individuals or businesses that owe taxes to the city or School District originally due any time between February 1, 1986 and June 30, 2009. If you pay up in full, you won't have to pay any penalties and the interest will be cut in half.

Nutter said the city is still expecting to realize $30 million after paying the expenses of running the program. Roughtly $518 million in back taxes are owed to the city. The last time the city did an amnesty program was in 1986.
