City worker fined for posting political messages to Facebook from city computer

A deputy commissioner, who works in the office of City Commissioner Stephanie Singer has to pay a hefty fine for violating ethics rules after using a city computer to post political messages onto Facebook.

Tracey Gordon, deputy commissioner for voter outreach and education reached an agreement Tuesday with the Board of Ethics to pay $675 for using a city computer on nine different occasions to share links on Facebook expressing support or disagreement with the views of various candidates and political groups.

The Ethics Board received information in September that Gordon was using Facebook to make partisan political posts. In addition to the fine, Gordon has been directed to attend ethics training within 30 days and she has agreed to no longer access Facebook from her city computer for any purpose.
