City unions taunt 'Mayor Grinch' with the '12 Days of Nutter'

Ah, the holidays, when family comes home to visit, kids dream of new toys and municipal unions taunt the mayor in song for a contract battle with no end in sight.

Ah, the holidays, when family comes home to visit, kids dream of new toys and municipal unions taunt the mayor in song for a contract battle with no end in sight.

About 20 members of District Council 33 and District Council 47, which represent white-collar and blue-collar city workers, sung the "12 Days of Nutter" outside City Hall around noon today.

One member dressed as "The Grinch" as the group passed out mock holiday cards depicting Nutter as the famous Dr. Seuss character.  They were so into the song that they didn't notice Nutter pull up, get out of his car, cock his head their way and then walk into City Hall.

About half of the group then entered City Hall, went to Nutter's second-floor office and sung in the hallway again as Nutter staffers and police officers watched.  The song went:

  1. On the first day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- The rich keep their tax abatements!

  2. On the second day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me --RO-o-lling Closures!

  3. On the third day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- NO mo-ney!

  4. On the fourth day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- Shut Li-braries!

  5. On the fifth day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- I D-O-N-T L-I-K-E working-people!

  6. On the sixth day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- Contract out our work!

  7. On the seventh day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- I'm cutting Services!

  8. On the eighth day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me --Lower corporate tax-es!

  9. On the ninth day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me --I Killed paid sick days!

  10. On the tenth day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me --NO feeding the Homeless!

  11. On the eleventh day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- I'm really Republican!

  12. On the twelfth day of Christmas, Mayor Nutter said to me -- Thanks for paying for China!

The unions have been working without a new contract since July 2009.  Nutter wants the unions to accept changes to work rules and benefits. The unions have said they will make no concessions in new contracts.
