Cheri Honkala Adds Horse Stunt To Sheriff's Campaign

She's got spirit but Cheri Honkala, the Green Party candidate for sheriff, doesn't have much of a chance to win the Nov. 8 general election. She can, however, use her candidacy to draw more attention to her key cause: People losing their homes to foreclosure in sheriff's sales.
And nothing draws attention like a stunt. That's why Honkala will climb up on a horse Monday morning and ride eight blocks east from Kensington and Allegheny avenues to a concert venue at Allegheny Avenue and Kip Street* where she plans to hold a campaign fund-raiser next month. Honkala's campaign will be playing songs from some of the performers who will be featured in that fund-raiser. Honkala's horse ride, first scheduled for tomorrow, was moved to Monday due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Irene.
We told you in today's PhillyClout column [last item] about former U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney coming to town today to campaign for Honkala. McKinney, a Georgia Democrat who jumped to the Green Party, most recently made news by railing against U.S. foreign policy on state-controlled television in Libya.
The front-runner in the race is state Rep. Jewell Williams. Republican Joshua West is also running.
