ADL Denounces Pa. Official's Nazi Talk About Gasland

It's been more than 24 hours since we asked Gov. Corbett's office to respond to demands that a Department of Conservation and Natural Resources official be disciplined for comparing the director of the documentary "Gasland" to the Nazi minister of propaganda during World War II.  We're still waiting.

But we now know Barry Morrison, regional director for the Anti-Defamation League would like to talk with that official, Teddy Borawski, chief oil and gas geologist for DCNR.

Morrison wrote to Borawski yesterday, telling him that using Nazi references is "inappropriate and offensive" and trivialize crimes against humanity.

Gasland director Josh Fox told us yesterday that he was especially incensed to be compared to Nazi Joseph Goebbels since his father and paternal grandparents are Holocaust survivors.

"It is our understanding that Mr. Fox's film raises health, environmental and human rights concerns with a gas drilling practice called hydraulic fracturing," Morrison wrote to Borawski. "While debate on this topic can be vigorous and robust we would hope that the dialog, especially from state officials, would be respectful and civilized."

Morrison closes with a line about hoping to speak to Borawski.  We don't expect him to have much luck with that.  Borawski yesterday told us he's not allowed to comment on his comments.
