Mayor Nutter's campaign office just put out a release, touting the endorsement of the city's congressional delegation. Here it is:
THE PHILADELPHIA CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION SUPPORTS MICHAEL NUTTER FOR MAYOR
(PHILADELPHIA) --The three members of the United States House of Representatives who represent Philadelphia today endorsed Mayor Michael Nutter's re-election bid. Congressman Chaka Fattah, Congressman Robert Brady, and Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz emphasized the need for a "no-nonsense problem-solver" who "understands how to work with . . . the federal government to get results for Philadelphia."
"I have enjoyed a great working relationship with each of these members of Congress," said Mayor Nutter. "They understand what it is stake for the City of Philadelphia during these challenging times, and I am grateful for their support. We have worked together to help create jobs, improve our high school graduation rate, increase capital investments in green energy, and preserve our cultural institutions."
Congresswoman Schwartz (13th Dist.) today said, "I am proud to endorse Michael Nutter for re-election. He is an outspoken champion for the City who has successfully attracted new business development and federal investments, while promoting innovative 'green' policies, and improving basic education. He understands how to work with President Obama and the federal government to get results for Philadelphia."
Congressman Brady (1st Dist.) pointed to Nutter's leadership during the nation's economic downturn as a reason for his endorsement. "Mayor Nutter was dealt a tough hand -- an economy in free fall with collapsing revenue. He has made the tough choices that real leadership demands and deserves our support for another four years," Brady said.
Congressman Fattah (2nd Dist.) cited his collaboration with Mayor Nutter on one of his principal policy objectives -- increasing access to higher education. "From his first day in office, Mayor Nutter set ambitious goals focused on improving the life chances of Philadelphia families -- from access to higher education to creating programs that protect home ownership. Our Mayor is an active advocate for the success of our city, and I look forward to continuing to work with him."
The Mayor noted how each member worked with his Administration to help maximize Federal stimulus funding, specifically benefiting Philadelphia in the areas of Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants, Affordable Housing construction projects, and a Centers for Disease Control partnership with the City's Department of Health around healthy food and exercise -- to name a few of the federal projects benefiting the City.
"I look forward to continuing to work with our Delegation members to make sure that Philadelphia leads our nation in job creation and economic recovery," Nutter said.
