SEPTA to suspend service during Hurricane Irene

Mayor Nutter just announced that, for the first time in their history, SEPTA will suspend all service Saturday night in response to Hurricane Irene.
All buses, subways, trolleys and regional rail will halt at approximately midnight, Nutter said. Service will likely resume at some point Sunday after the storm has passed.
SEPTA Spokesman Richard Maloney said that several regional rail lines powered by Amtrak will shut down earlier, at 5 p.m. Saturday. Those are the Airport line, Chestnut Hill West, Wilmington and Paoli.
Maloney said SEPTA carries an average of 200,000 passengers on a typical Sunday.
