Rendell: GOP "Being Taken Over By Wackos"

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine came to the University of Pennsylvania this afternoon hoping to fire up the generation of new voters who elected President Obama two years ago, ahead of the Nov. 2 mid-term elections. But Gov. Rendell nearly stole the show while introducing Kaine to a room of about 150 students and organized labor members when he claimed the Republican Party is being taken over by "wackos."

Rendell: GOP "Being Taken Over By Wackos"

POSTED: Wednesday, September 8, 2010, 3:11 PM

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine came to the University of Pennsylvania this afternoon hoping to fire up the generation of new voters who elected President Obama two years ago, ahead of the Nov. 2 mid-term elections.  But Gov. Rendell nearly stole the show while introducing Kaine to a room of about 150 students and organized labor members when he claimed the Republican Party is being taken over by "wackos."

As proof, Rendell cited a Republican push to hold hearings on the section of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that grants citizenship to people born in this country, continuing doubts among the party's voters that Obama was born in this country and claims from GOP officials that laid-off workers would rather stay on unemployment than take new jobs.

“It’s the party that’s slowly but surely being taken over by wackos," Rendell said, drawing laughter and cheers from the crowd. "“We’re going to turn the reins of Congress over to the people who are more and more dominated by the wacko wing? Of course not. So we have a lot to sell. We haven’t done a good job selling it."

Rendell and Kaine argued that federal stimulus spending criticized by the GOP to attack Democratic candidates has created and saved jobs in Pennsylvania and the rest of the country.  Rendell accused Republicans of wanting the economy to continue faltering.  "They want to use it as an election issue all the way up to 2012," Rendell said. "That’s destructive. It’s unfair. And frankly, it’s outrageous."

The GOP has been taken over by wackos since the 70's. First there were the supply siders, then the religious right, newt's gang, the neo cons and now the tea party. The GOP's image has been changed over and over again to try and win over the american people yet each of these factions cancel out any of their good with their bad.

I find it offensive. I find that many Liberals are way more crazy. To tar any group with such an offensive label is irresponsible. BTW way to pick Greene to run the PHA - not sure you have the right to call anyone else names.

@Brendan Rewrite the Constitution? That is what the Amendment process is for. We want to take it to a vote. You statists Democrats don't take things to vote you just change it with your activists judges. You and OBama thumb your nose at the Constitution that is why you call it a living and breathing documen meaning you can interpret it anyway you want.

I think Brendan thinks the Tea Party wants to look at the 14th amendment of the constitution. They want it clarified since the leftists "interpreted" wrongly again that Mexicans sneaking across the border to drop their babies are citizens. If you read the amendment you will know that that is not the intention.

@MikeP - are you serious? The Tea Party backed candidates aren't running on lower taxes and less government? Really? You are in another world buddy. Then you through thet horrible Christians in the mix. I'd rather have them on my side then siding up with the Muslims like you statists do. Just remember that the Mexican people are very religious Christians. Don't offend them with your Christian hate.

Sure we have 9.6% unemployment and record deficits but the other side is a " bunch of Wackos"??????? Wow, Good luck winning with that message. When the leader of the House says " we have to pass the bill to see what is in it" I think perhaps some introspection is in order. Instead we get name calling and insults.

Fernando touche. The Repubs have convinced poor people, meaning folks who earn under $250,000 that they don't like blacks, gays, latinas and muslims. While we are bust fighting amongst ourselves, they are looking out for their folks...people earning over $250,000. People need to wake up and see things for what they are.......we are much more alike than we are different........the Repubs could give a damn about any of us who don't make real money.........yet....idiots think they speak to them........they wouldn't let any of you clean their toilets........we live in a rich vs, poor society, religion and color has nothing to do with it.......and if you are not one of them (earning more than 250,000) wake up call...you are one of us (earning under 250,000), deal with it.......
