Lynne Abraham was appointed District Attorney in 1991 and won re-election every four years after that. But the woman who bragged often about how the late mayor Frank Rizzo had called her a "tough cookie," said politics in this town is a difficult game for women. Abraham, speaking to PhillyClout's Catherine Lucey -- who took a look at the issue earlier today -- called politics a "tough business."
"Women really have to be tough," Abraham said. "This is not a tea party."
Lucey spoke with Abraham at the Famous Fourth Street Deli, a popular lunch-time hang-out for politicians on election day. Three of the five Democrats running to replace Abraham -- Dan McCaffery, Brian Grady & Michael Turner -- were making the rounds at the deli.
Grady joked about this grassroots effort to familiarize voters with his campaign, roaming door-to-door in the city's neighborhoods. "I wish I put on an odometer from day one to track the miles that I walked," he said.
City Controller Alan Butkovitz, who faces two primary challengers, said his campaign was faring well at polling places as compared to rival Brett Mandel. "We seem to be extremely well organized at the polling place," Butkovitz said. "There seems to be scattered representation by Mandel."
