Nice to see him put on the Phils hat; abusers beware, new sheriff in town.. M60tanker
"jerkoftheworld" is a good description of your mental level, or maybe it should be "jerkofftheworld"? Pete H
Wearing the Phils hat shows he is already bogus. People around here would have more respect if he was a fan of the Rockies or whatever team he cheered for when he was growing up. Earl J
Here's the deal;for those animals who hurt children, they deserve the worst kinds of punishment law allows but to generalize and bash the whole Catholic Church is not only cruel, it's ignorant. It's a disgrace to defame the Church or any other religious group because of bad seeds. The problem is too many people have no respect anymore. Those immigrants who came to America and built Churches and Temples literally by hand would be mortified. I know a ton of good priests and nuns who devoted their lives to helping the sick, homeless and dying..wise up and take account of the junk you're spitting out of your mouths. theBeast29
Hey Jerk, I have read both grand jury reports. They are disgusting. Assuming that everything in there is correct, that still is a small percentage of the clergy. Now, it should be none! One would be too many! Packed maybe an overstatement though. We defend our faith because we know what it should be, what it can be. I don't think we feel its free from blame, but the faith and the majority of people involved are good people...We run shelters, soup kitchens, orphanages, hospitals, bereavement centers, schools, colleges, rehab clinics, counseling services, and we do so for much less pay than the public sector....silly me, I forgot to ask, what does your church do? reasonableihope
statistics show that other religious groups have about the same percentage of ministers who sexually abuse chidren as catholic priests. and there's a higher percentage of married men who sexually abuse children than priests or ministers. it's a culture-wide problem. what's wrong with our culture? aj001- True, there are sick human being in every corner. However, with regard to the church, it not only had child molesters everywhere, but the hierarchy knowingly harbored gave safe haven, covered up for them, and only moved them around which allowed them access to more children. Priests protecting sick, abusive priests is missing in your defense, and is a big reason why the church is on the hot seat, and should be.
Hey Jerkoftheworld, you may want to read the John Day report on sex abuse with priests. 87% were gay priest with teenage boys. It does not make it right, but it helps explain the problem. The Church never should have let these sexualy imature and confussed men into seminary. Then they made mistake worse by thinking they could correct the problem while covering it up. The Church is making all the right moves to correct the problem. Gays are no longer allowed to join the seminary, and getting into seminary is very difficult it has about same drop out rate as navy seals. The new breed of young men becoming priests is very impressive. They are real men, totaly dedicated, holy, smart, and just plain tuff. camasbud- Gay men ARE real men.
The problem isn't that gay men are in the priesthood. The problem is that gay men who are trying to repress part of their innate personality because of inappropriate shame are allowed to go through 8-9 years of seminary unchecked.
The formation committees are also deceiving themselves and their bishops by proclaiming most of the homosexual candidates "transitory" and them later checking them as having been "cured" of this transitory homosexuality. The church itself teaches that orientation is innate, but yet the pope makes an exception for "transitory" cases. It's all a shell game to make people think they are addressing the problem when they're just covering it up in a new way. footwork61
With regards to the sex scandals in the church:
It's my theory that many men join the seminary BECAUSE they are gay, and afraid of two things: 1- Being unholy (so they devote their lives to God to absolve them of their "sinful" nature) or 2- Being found out by others (so they disguise their disinterest in women beneath a veil of abstinence). Although many fight their sexuality, many of them buckle under the oppression and take it out on little boys--vulnerable victims whom they think won't tell anybody. The Catholic church needs to understand that their structure needs to change in order to eliminate this sickening abuse that is destroying their already-shrinking following.
1) Priests should be able to get married. Do you ever hear about other Christian sects having sex abuse problems? No, because their leaders are allowed to have normal sex with their loving partners. If priests had healthy sexual outlets, they wouldn't have to abuse children. Also, if priests were able to get married, men wouldn't join the seminary just to hide from their secret homosexuality.
2) The Catholic church must stop treating homosexuality as a sin. This oppression is hateful and manipulative of the bible (which I won't get into here). If men were able to be freely gay, they would not have to use little boys as their secret outlets for their normal human impulses.
I was raised Catholic, and like many disenchanted people my age, I no longer go to mass and do not plan on bringing my future children into the Catholic church. Catholic churches are closing left and right, and their numbers are in rapid decline (http://theweek.com/article/index/202388/catholics-in-crisis). If they don't realize that they need to change, they are in serious denial and deserve to perish. RhondaBillings

rhonda, are you serious? If priests could marry they wouldn't hide their homosexuality? So, if a gay man marries a woman, that's not hiding his homosexuality? Thank God you left the Church because you make no sense whatsoever and the Catholic education was wasted on you. mike l
JerryD-I thought this entire move was unnecessary as you claimed all the pervs were either dead or locked up. Another "culture warrior" who warns people of the sinful nature of political opinions that are not Republican. Go to some third world country that still obeys orders from "on high." mick-of-the-moment
