Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski was forced today to dial back his claim of support in the 2014 Democratic primary election from former Gov. Ed Rendell. That comes after Rendell made clear last week that he is not endorsing any candidate in that election.
The Pawlowski campaign sent an email to the media at 7:06 a.m. with a headline that claimed Rendell had hosted a party for him Thursday evening at the Ballard Spahr law firm in Center City, raising more than $50,000. The email said the fundraiser was for Pawlowski's gubernatorial campaign.
"I was honored that the governor would host a fundraising event for me, and I greatly appreciate his friendship and support," the email quoted Pawlowski as saying.
One problem: The fundraiser was for Pawlowski's mayoral campaign, not his gubernatorial campaign. Pawlowski is running for a third term as Allentown's mayor in the November general election.
