Parade Update: Utley Talks Dirty

From Chris down at Citizens Bank Park: Chase Utley stepped up to the mike and said: "World champions. World f------ champions!" Mayor Nutter said the crowd estimate is about 2 million but the city is reviewing video and aerial photos and may revise. In South Philadelphia, Nutter saw a guy holding a sign that said "I'm being joyous, not a jackass," referencing Nutter's message from yesterday. "We made eye contact," Nutter said. "I pointed. He smiled."

People have no problems with wars, death, guns, but God forbid, they hear a bad word and it's like Armageddon!

Folks... Utley deserves a pass (if not 20 passes) for what he has achieved. This a real, tough, authentic and triumphant town. If Chase Utley can't slip up in front of the city the way every parent on Earth does several times a week in front of their kids, then, in one of the most ecstatic momenst of his life, we expect him to better than everyone, as opposed to merely human. Give the guy a break! He gave us one gigantic break... it's called the World Series.

kleinsangels--Jayson Werth is from Illinois, not California. Wearing black doesn't automatically make you from the Left Coast.

Look, for parents it's a great teaching opportunity. Should he has said it? Probably not. And I'm all for not agreeing with him and thinking he was wrong. But forgive and forget people. This hardly makes him a moron, or completely classless, or the antichrist. It makes him human. Just like Philly fans to go all hyperbolic in their reaction (both pro and con). Honestly, if I had been there as a kid with my parents they would have laughed themselves silly and then later explained to me that it was a grown up word and that while they did think it was funny that Chase was wrong to use it. And that would be that.

Kleinsangel get an F'in life. Utley was caught up in the moment, he didn't direct it as a personal attack but used it as an adjective to show how overwhelming the achievement of the Phillies was to him. The F word however vulgar and crude is used in todays society in many differnt forms, among them as a descriptive adjective to show or emphasize nouns and objects. Deal with it or climb back in your sanctimonious F-in cave. F you very much.

Great day. Great day for families. Great day for core family values. Everything was great. Behavior was great. The short speeches from the players were great. One word could have been omited and everything would have been the same, and still great. Saying that "one word", just made anyone with children cringe, and quite franlky, lose a little respect for a guy who I always thought deserved a lot. Not killin' the guy, just disappointed in him.

The same children you feel were offended by the "Chase Comment", typically spend many hours each day on the Internet where the amount of lewd material is readily accessable......While I consider Mr. Utley's remarks inappropriate, the kids are probably saying to themselves "what's the big deal ?"

Jesus Christ? God? I'm pretty sure they have more pressing matters than what Chase Utley said at the parade today. I'm pretty sure if they didn't intervene to save some of those helpless people in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina that they probably weren't paying much attention to today's parade. Of course if Chase's arms fly off his body during his first swing next season, I'll reconsider my statement. Seriously, I understand why parents are angry and why some are offended, but I also understand that not a single person who was offended today has ever been in a moment as profoundly emotional as that which Chase found himself in today. And you know what, I'm quite sure Chase is embarrassed by what he said, but it just came out. I love how some of you try to compare it to giving an address at a business meeting or something similar. Puh-leeze!!! By the way how many of you offended people have given hundreds of thousands of dollars to charity like Chase? How many of you self righteous, right wing, conservative Jesus freaks like to go out hunting on the weekend? See cause to me there is no reason to kill another one of God's creatures for the sport or thrill of it. Just remember it wasn't until after Cerrano said "Ah, jesus....I like him very much. But he no help with curve ball." that he became President of the United States!!!

For the record - I'm pretty sure that what Utley said wasn't a slip up. He looked right at his teammates before he said it. As someone else mentioned earlier, it appeared as though he was dared to do it.
