Mayor Nutter today announced that Desiree Peterkin-Bell will be returning to his administration as director of communications, after a stint with President Obama's re-election campaign.
Peterkin-Bell joined the administration in September 2010. Her job had not been filled since June when she left to do communications work for the Obama campaign in Pennsylvania.
Mayoral spokesman Mark McDonald said other staffers had taken over the workload, but said the job had not been held open for Peterkin-Bell. With the campaign over, McDonald said Nutter saw that "she's available and he's asked her to come back."
Bell will be returning at her $150,000 salary, McDonald said. She'll start again on Nov. 19.
Sounds like a cushy gig. Captain Terrific
This is why the City is broke. This woman was gone for months and others took over her duties - whatever they were. Oh, and yeah we all believe the job wasn't held open for her. Oh, yeah, we believe she is really worth $150,000. We missed her so much that no one knew she was really gone. She was so valuable to the campaign that they dumped her back on Philly again. I guess she thought she would be heading to DC but had to stay in poor old Philly and scrape by with a measly $150K. Philly Senior
Sounds like an ethics violation from Mayor Ethical. I thought you couldn't take a leave of absence for political activity. What a joke. Eloise at the Plaza
