Mayor Nutter’s Director of Communications and Strategic Partnerships Desiree Peterkin-Bell will be moving on to work for the Obama for America campaign, the administration announced today. Check out the press release below:

Philadelphia, June 29, 2012 –Mayor Michael A. Nutter announced that Director of Communications and Strategic Partnerships Desiree Peterkin-Bell will join the Obama for America campaign as Senior Advisor for Communications in Pennsylvania. In her role, Ms. Peterkin-Bell oversaw the Mayor’s communications strategy and managed long-term planning for the Administration. During her tenure, she increased the City’s social media presence, coordinated communications with many external stakeholders, and increased transparency in City government.

“Desiree is a trusted advisor, dedicated public servant and good colleague who has worked tirelessly to communicate with Philadelphians and the nation about the important work being accomplished in our city each and every day,” said Mayor Nutter. “She will be greatly missed by our Administration, and I wish her success with her new opportunity telling the story of President Obama to Pennsylvanians.”

Ms. Peterkin-Bell said, “It has been an honor to serve this Administration and to work for Mayor Nutter who I admire and respect. He is one of the most dedicated and committed mayors in the nation, and I would like to thank him for his leadership in Philadelphia and in cities across the country. I am looking forward to working with him in my new capacity.”

Prior to joining the Administration, Ms. Peterkin-Bell served as Director of Communications to Mayor Cory A. Booker in Newark, New Jersey. She also previously served as Senior Director and Vice President of Government Affairs at the New York City Marketing Development Corporation. She also served as the Supervising Legislative Representative for the City of New York under Mayor Michael Bloomberg and as Special Assistant to Mayor Bart Peterson in Indianapolis. Ms. Peterkin-Bell will begin work for the campaign next week.

She directed long term planning? HAHAHAHAHA Does anyone really believe that that position will stay vacant long. There are probably 1000 more political hacks lining up for this job.

Did she actually say "He is one of the most dedicated and committed mayors in the nation, and I would like to thank him for his leadership in Philadelphia and in cities across the country"

Lets see, property taxes up 20% in 3 years, school district bleeding red ink, at least 1 "counted" murder a day, and lots of union strife. Sure he is the greatest Democratic mayor the city has ever had.

Desiree deserves credit for being so asute as to quite before the City . collapses into bankruptcy. As nutter said, she is a fine public employee and thanks her for her year of "WORK" Now she is leaving to work for a real Winner, King Obama. These kind of Public servents keep finding ways to hang on to their public employment, either city halls or Policical campaigns. Never Private Employment. And on top of all of this they children to continue the their legacy. Work hard for the king, He will be unempoyment in november 2012

@uandwhosearmy- Let's use our reading comprehension skills (if you have any) to figure out what those big words mean. They're pretty straightforward.

@rduexpress - You should probably learn to write proper English before criticizing others. Keep voting Republican, though. You're just the type of uneducated, illerate voter they thrive on.

Pot calling kettle black. If you are going to criticize people's comments and be a spelling nazi, then you should spell check beforehand - "illerate" ? wtf is that? You must be in the city administration, like the "Director of Communications Services Ventures and Assistant Spelling Bee Wizard" in this administration.

Most of the Nutter Admin seems more suited for the Occupy movement, one of the far left loon groups or the Obama Administration.

I am sure Desiree is a lovely woman and I wish her well, but she does have a significant agenda to keep the Democrats in power. As we all can read she has increased transparency in City Government, so in keeping with the transparency theme. Desiree earns $150,000 salary; so excluding benefits, how many tax payers does it cost to support her salary. Using just Philadelphia residents paying the 3.928% tax rate, you would need $3,818,737 in taxable wages to cover her salary, or in other words, it would take just over 95 Philadelphia residents making $40,000 a year to cover her salary. So as Desiree ventures out to get a second term for President Obama, she along with so many others in Government appreciates your votes and tax dollars.
